Performance Banquet at Sloan’s-Merchant City Festival July 2010 – Performer, Broomielaw ‘Dancing QUEEN’ Kate E. Deeming

My work merges community activism with artistic practice. With experiences balancing the world between Community Arts and Professional Performance, the expressions include dance, theatre, music, clowning, and film. Always seeking ways to create connections between people and their communities, between ideas and environment, I have travelled the world with these aims for the past fifteen years working with a diverse mix of individuals.

I started writing, performing, and staging plays in my backyard when I was a small child (and charging admission!) in the 30 years since those initial entrepreneurial theatrical steps not much has changed. I am driven by the creative act of expression which finds it’s outlets in many ways- theatre, dance, film, installation, writing, brownie baking….! I have made work in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Europe, Sri Lanka, India, The Middle East, and Japan.

I have been featured on the BBC, STV and in numerous periodicals including the Daily Record, Sunday Express, and Glasgow Herald.

In May 2010 I was recognized by the Scottish Parliament for my contribution to dance via an official motion submitted in honour of Unesco World Dance Day.

I received my BA (theatre&sociology) from Franklin and Marshall College (Lancaster, PA, USA), did a semester study at University College, Oxford University (England, via Bath-based Advanced Studies in England), and my MDra (Acting) from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow Scotland).  I am a member of the Workroom (Glasgow) and Equity.

If you are in some way moved to do so, it’s like internet busking :)
