Deeming Dreaming Newsletter July 2007

July 17th, 2007 § 0

Hello!  and greetings from the wild and wonderful world of Kate E. Deeming!  Good golly lots has happened since my last posting…. Threads the Performance Film Experiment, the UK premiere of Performance Films 43(two), the world premiere of “Two Little Girls and the Big Bad Man” and the Deeming Dreaming Shop gone LIVE!  I have been keeping myself busy.

I feel extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to create and share work that has such meaning for me in the world.  Making art which encourages community and connection is extremely important to me, through the doing and the making I genuinely feel I am making some peace in the chaos and largely this is within myself.  In a time when we are told to mistrust, I am challenged to be more loving and open.  In a time when the surface is valued over the body, I am challenged to plant and nurture seeds.  In a time when I am told to think of myself first, I am challenged to link that self into a greater universe.  It is a challenge but it is not insurmountable and through the tiny tiny steps I move that closer to something finer, more spectacular, and more authentic in the world.

I hope that you are well and dreaming well and living with celebration for all you are!!!

In light and love, Kate E. xx

THREADS PERFORMANCE FILM EXPERIMENT DEBUT

The Threads performance film experiment premiered at the Che Camille space in Glasgow in May.  Part installation (with a knitted and woven environment), part film set (the installation served as a setting for a film), part live performance (the film environment was projected into a performance space which was witnessed by a live audience) the experiment sought to explore those spaces between these media and in that way connect into a larger metaphysical truth. I was pleased to receive a diverse and positive response from varied audiences ranging from dancers to visual artists, filmmakers to theatre makers, academics to yoga instructors and more… I will be including their responses in my next posting.  Currently the film part of “Threads” is in its post-production and will be released at the end of the summer.  What I can say so far is the footage is beautiful and interesting and the film is sure to follow the thread (ha ha).

43(two) PERFORMANCE FILM PREMIERE

In May, the four film performance series 43(two) had its debut exhibition at the Che Camille space.  Featuring four films shot over a three year timespan the films are meant to be projected site specific in post-industrial areas, the forgotten ‘in-between’ spaces where people and history hover precariously.  Each on a separate time code (including the music), they present a unique experience for the viewer who brings with them their own sense of time and space.  Che Camille offered a perfect venue for these films being housed in a crumbling 100 year old former factory.  The space was set off by mirrors which included the viewer in the reflection of the films themselves.  The most common response to the work was ‘mesmerizing’ with links being made to the early work of Pina Bausch and Derek Jarman. Currently I am planning an autumn tour for this piece which will include various cities in the UK and east coast America.  Stay tuned in the next newsletter for further developments!

TWO LITTLE GIRLS AND THE BIG BAD MAN

The extraordinary short film, (produced by Kate E. Deeming and Richi Holt in conjunction with Hannaywood Studios), Two Little Girls and the Big Bad Man premiered at the The Black Lily Film Festival in Philadelphia, USA in May. Directed by Fourteen year old Govan High School student Waqar Un Nisa Nabi, the film was part of an international lineup and was extremely well received.  The film which is part of a larger experimental community initiative merging community action with feature film development is the culmination of 18 months of work with students at Govan High School linked into the Feature Film project, Stacey’s Face. There are three short films in total. The three films are shortly to be uploaded onto the Kate E. Deeming website, stay tuned for more info!
