Exploring the Anthropology of Movement
15-21st March – The Workroom at the Tramway
I have been awarded a week long residency to further explore concepts I have been developing regarding ancestral movement, and new body stories what I call ‘Body Anthropology’. In January and February 2010 I travelled to the Northeast of Sri Lanka where I delivered dance workshops to young people affected by the war and tsunami – from these workshops we devised performances around the theme of ‘Dreams’. Taking the film and music footage from the time, along with cultural references gathered, I am initiating the second stage of the project. Over the week residency I will present the references to Glasgow based Sri Lankan dancers in order to develop a new dance vocabulary. The theme of this exploration is “Hope/is a thing with Feathers” (as in the Emily Dickinson poem). These ideas will form the basis for the performance piece (of the same name) to premiere at Glasgow Refugee Week 19 June 2010 at the Tron.
Please join us for an informal sharing of the work on Sunday the 21st March at 4pm!
