My friend David and I went for a wee jaunt in the wild Whinny Wood near Loch Lomond on Sunday. I’ve known David since moving to Scotland in 2000, as he was my upstairs neighbour and a fellow student at the RSAMD. Poverty and Benefits
My Mom says I shouldn’t talk about being ‘on benefit’ (welfare). She feels this admission will hinder me getting jobs. She highlights a truth, there is a stigma attached to being jobless and ‘signing on’. It doesn’t matter what circumstances landed you there in the first place. You are, according to society, a failure. It doesn’t matter if you’ve paid taxes since the age of 16 when you got your first job, or that expected work came to an end, or didn’t materialize. Or that you expected to be in Argentina by now with a savings in the bank from the sale of your property dancing the tango, but that your buyer backed out at the last minute, and so as a freelance person you had not set up work for yourself. THREADS FILM ONLINE!
I’m pleased and proud to announce the online premiere of the Film ‘THREADS’ as completed/compiled and masterfully worked by the very talented filmmaker Peter Hastie. Threads the film is derived from the film footage of my performance film installation ‘Threads’ which was presented in 2007 in conjunction with Che Camille in Glasgow. I created a live installation environment with knitter Sara Grieg. The dancers included Sara Potter, Yvonne McCombie, Camille Monson, Kelly Lovelady and myself. Actor Robbie Jack also participated.
